Was Saint thomas aquinas the architect of modern society, in that he founded the "university." Which was to be?

the repository of ALL knowledge, secular and religious. (And the university itself was to train the clergy of the society, to lead it.) BUT IT GOT COMPLETELY OUT OF HAND. And trained scientists to rule the mind and world.
